Services
The Carpet Recyclers collect, sort and process used residential, commercial broadloom carpet and carpet tiles. The majority of this material is processed by our first-of-its kind, state-of-the-art carpet recycling facility exclusive to the Western United States which harvests valuable resources from the entire carpet.
Broadloom carpet unable to be recycled due to glue on backing or limited fiber available for harvest is diverted from landfills and used as a high-energy source, replacing fossil fuels to generate electricity. Recyclable carpet tiles are sent back to the manufacturers for raw materials for new carpet tiles.
The Carpet Recyclers is just servicing the West Coast but will be expanding to new locations soon. To find carpet recyclers outside of our service area, visit Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE)

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do your services cost?
Prices vary depending on service provided and distance from receiving facilities when The Carpet Recyclers is providing transportation. In general, the cost is usually less than tipping fees to dispose at landfills plus you're helping the environment and showing your customers that you're a "Green company" who cares.
What type of payments do you accept?
The Carpet Recyclers accept cash, checks and VISA. Credit arrangements and monthly billing is available upon credit approval for large projects and on-going customers.
What happens to my carpet once it arrives at The Carpet Recyclers?
The type of carpet will be determined using a hand-held analyzer and separated by different fiber types. For material acceptable for recycling, the face fibers are removed with mechanical sheers and then baled for reuse by manufactures for new carpet, padding, auto parts, building products, and a wide range of other products that would require virgin resources from oil without recycling.
But then, what happens at The Carpet Recyclers is very different than the rest…
Our state-of-the-art, first-of-its-kind facility includes an extensive series of proprietary equipment where the carpet backing (which is designed for long-life and to stay together) is systematically torn apart and the components separated into their original materials which are also recycled back into products.
Can you help me comply with the new California AB 2398 requirements?
Yes. In California, since July 1, 2011 the purchase price of all carpet sold will includes a $0.05/square yard Carpet Product Stewardship Assessment. The AB 2398 Assessment must be clearly shown as a separate line item on all customer invoices to increase consumer carpet recycling awareness.
Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) will be administering the new Carpet Stewardship program along with CalRecycle, the state agency responsible for Solid Waste Management in California. The Carpet Recyclers is a proud member of CARE and is ready to recycle the additional carpet diverted from California landfills through the AB 2398 program. The Carpet Recyclers are also setting up Carpet Recycling Programs for Retailers throughout California in anticipation of their customers seeing the AB 2398 Assessment on their invoices and asking "Are you recycling my old carpet?"
Information regarding AB 2398 for Retailers & Dealers can be found on the CARE Website
Can you accept waste carpet included in the City of Los Angeles "Construction & Demolition waste" landfill ban?
Yes. Under the new January 2011 ordinance, used carpet generated from construction and even remodeling is included under the City of Los Angeles definition of "construction and demolition waste." Per the summary and copy of the LA City ordinance included on this website, used carpet must go either to:
1) A "certified construction and demolition waste processing facility" where the
hauler pays a 10% fee to the City of Los Angeles or…
2) Delivered to a source-separated recycling facility like The Carpet Recyclers
which is exempt from the 10% fee.

Welcome to The Carpet Recyclers!

The majority of this material is processed by our first-of-its kind, state-of-the-art carpet recycling facility exclusive to the Western United States which harvests valuable resources from the entire carpet. Recovered resources are used to make new carpet, carpet padding, plastic auto parts, oil spill adsorbents, building products and so much more!
Our services include dropping trailers at retail/installer locations and at demolition job sites. Our transportation partner KKW Trucking has been awarded the top score by the U.S. EPA for their SmartWay Transportation program based on KKW's fuel efficiency, outstanding environmental performance and an average age of 1.5 years of their 350 unit tractor fleet.
The Carpet Recyclers is a proud member of Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) a joint industry-government effort to increase the amount of recycling and reuse of post-consumer carpet and reduce the amount of waste carpet going to landfills.
The parent company of The Carpet Recyclers, GF Industries has been turning "waste" into "resources" since 1992 through innovative waste recovery, beneficial reuse and recycling solutions that reduce costs and environmental impact.
Why Recycle Carpet?
Carpet is an oil-based product. Over 3.5% of all waste disposed in U.S. landfills is carpet. Recycling carpet:
- Reduces the 4 BILLION pounds disposed of annually. Saves precious landfill space: Carpet does not biodegrade, it will stay in landfills for generations.
- Reuses the 9 million barrels of oil wasted when carpet is disposed in landfills.
- Reduces greenhouse gases generated by refining virgin oil when carpet is not recycled and its petroleum products are not recovered.
- Reduces costs – landfill disposal of carpet is usually more expensive than recycling especially when also considering the waste of resources.
Recycling carpet and landfill diversion can also:
- Increase sales to eco-conscious buyers and commercial/government buyers who prohibit landfill disposal of removed used carpet.
- Create LEED credits and meet recycling goals for demolition projects.
How can Carpet Sellers, Installers & Demolition Contractors get started?
Call 877-714-9490 (except in Northern California call 866-847-7286) to find out how simple and cost-effective it is to recycle your used carpet with The Carpet Recyclers. You can either drop off used carpet at our rapidly-growing number of locations or we can provide closed, lockable trailers sized to meet your needs. Fill it up, give us a call - We'll pick it up, swap it out for a new trailer and give you a recycling certificate to show your customers that you're a "Green Company" who cares!
Recycling can also help achieve LEED® credits under "construction waste management."
What can Consumers do to make sure their used carpet is Recycled?
When buying carpet, ask the seller what their installers will be doing with your old carpet. If they can't tell you who will be recycling your carpet or show you their recycling certificates, it's going to a landfill (& very possibly at an added cost to you)! In California, since July 1, 2011 the purchase price of all carpet sold includes a $0.05/square yard Carpet Stewardship Assessment.
You are paying an extra assessment to have your carpet recycled, demand that your installer is recycling your used carpet! The Carpet Recyclers' customers range from neighborhood "mom & pop" carpet stores to the largest carpet sellers in the United States. If you're on the West Coast of the U.S., please feel free to contact us at 877-714-9490 to find out which stores in your area are recycling used carpet.
By appointment, consumers can also drop off carpet for a $25/load at The Carpet Recyclers and our Independent Carpet Collectors (ICC) rapidly-expanding locations listed on the Contact page.
